RELATIONSHIPS

Relationships is a significant theme in the novel Animal Farm by George Orwell, because all residents on the farm have a relationship with at least one other animal no matter what species, an example is the unique friendship between squealer and Napoleon,a strong bond with Boxer and Benjamin and a rivalry between napoleon and snowball.

Paragraph 1

Napoleon and squealer are friends. Well to an extent, they work well together and  need each other to make themselves look superior, Squealer is persuasive and manipulative he brainwashes you to make you believe what he says is true and faithful, while Napoleon is relentless and a good liar he knows what he wants and won’t stop until he gets there , In my opinion I think Napoleon is using squealer to make himself look like a trustworthy, fit leader who knows how to run a farm, without squealer he would be nothing, the other animals would not believe in him, they would want another ruler.

Paragraph 2

Benjamin and Boxer share an astonishing friendship, they care for each other like brothers they brought out the best in one other Benjamin was shy and would rather be alone however enjoyed Boxers company. Near the end of the novel Animal Farm boxer is taken away by the “horse doctors” however Benjamin is first to react to the horse slaughter sign on the back of the truck I believe this moment was heartbreaking for Benjamin as his best friend was going to die and all he could do was watch.

Paragraph 3

Snowball and Napoleon are rivals they both wanted to rule Manor Farm, however there could only be one and Napoleon took a more vile approach to the situation, he set his trusted dogs on Snowball to scare him out of the farm, although effective Snowball  just escaped unharmed, I believe Napoleon intended this as he could then blame any negative situations that happen on Snowball, another advantage of using the dogs was to show the other animals who is their ruler, I think the method he used was to give the other animals a warning that if you cross him you will serve the consequences of your actions just like snowball.

In conclusion Animal farm has many different relationships with lots of contrasting animals, although not all relationships have a great outcome, good or bad you always have some sort of connection with another being, like Napoleon and Snowball had a very negative relationship they would rather a life without each other they were both tired of fighting for one position so Napoleon put an end to the struggle, while Boxer and Benjamin, best friends still enjoyed each other’s company even when it was time for Boxer to be put to rest, and Napoleon and Squealer loved to romp with other Animals emotions although I think their personalities are different they work well together and understand how to get the job done even if you have to hurt a few people on the way through.
